Zenith Infotech’s BDR Solution is a comprehensive disk-based solution for business continuity needs in the SMB Marketplace. The Zenith BDR offers you a white labeled solution and delivers all the power and flexibility you need to take your business to new levels of customer satisfaction and enhanced profitability through one easy to use appliance.
Increase sales by replacing traditional tape backup solutions and provide your clients with a comprehensive Business Continuity package, at unmatched price points. Recover from system or data loss in minutes, not hours or days.
Zenith’s BDR models are Network Attached Storage (NAS) device installed with Business Continuity Software (BCS) that run on the Windows Storage Server 2003 platform. With near real-time backups as often as every 15 minutes, your downtime is minimized.
Zenith supports Windows Servers including 32 bit and 64 bit OS. With 80% of SMB’s having Windows based servers you have a large pool of clients whom you can cater to. Zenith’s BDR solution will set you apart from the competition, get you more sales closures, reduce overheads, and increase profits while ensuring your customer satisfaction.
What would a BDR solution be without solid backups? Zenith’s disk-based NAS allows for quick and easy point-in-time snapshots, which take just minutes and won't impact your environment. Only the changes to your data are backed up. Restoration is just as easy, mount your backup file as a drive on the NAS and copy what you need locally or to the network.
After the initial base backup, all future backups are incrementals. The Zenith BDR solution backups are not by files, but by the block level. This is below the file and folder level, and is more efficient. An incremental chain is created and only the changes are backed up, reducing backup windows.
Application Recovery
Backup and restore SQL, Sharepoint, and AD databases without additional agents. Just connect to one of your point-in-time snapshots, find your database and transaction log files, and restore using drag and drop functionality. Zenith’s solution also allows for easy document recovery of Sharepoint files through the file explorer.
Q: What type of backups does the BDR do? File and folder level? A: The BDR performs disk based, block-level snapshots. You can restore from the system all the way down to the file level.
Q: Does the BDR backup open files? A: Yes all data committed to the hard drive is backed up.
Q: Are the backups encrypted? A: Yes, we support multiple levels including government adopted industry standard 256-bit AES encryption.
Q: You say “backup as often as every 15 minutes”. Can the backup interval be changed? A: Yes, the most frequently backups can be schedule is every 15 minutes. It can be as low as once/week.
Email has become the lifeblood of the business world. With the BDR, perform mailbox & message restorations faster than ever. You can keep messages flowing throughout your company. With short recovery times and frequent recovery points, setbacks are fewer and employees are able to stay connected and productive, whether you’re facing the failure of an Exchange server or just a mistakenly deleted email.
Exchange Migration
Perform Exchange Server migrations with the Exchange Recovery Tools by restoring all of your Exchange Mailboxes to the new Mail server without ever bringing the old mail server online. Accomplish all this without time intensive backups. TheBDR can extract this information directly from the Exchange Message Store.
Q: Does the BDR Support Exchange? A: Yes Exchange 5.5 and above
Q: Do I need to pay extra for Exchange licenses? A: A certain number of exchange licenses come with your BDR device. Please see our NAS Model Chart for details. There is a small fee per mailbox if you require additional licenses.
Q: Can I restore more than the exchange databases? What if I need to restore a message or attachment? A: By backing up the exchange databases, you can restore down to the individual exchange object level. This includes the database itself mailboxes, messages, calendar items, even public folder data. Separate exchange servers or storage recovery groups aren’t necessary.
Q: Do I need to do a brick or message level backup in order to restore individual messages? A: No, our exchange utility natively understands and can extract data directly from the exchange database.
With Zenith’s Instant Virtualization capability, in less than 30 minutes, the NAS device can be configured to function as a Standby server. This elimates costly downtime due to server hardware failures. Zenith virtualizes servers directly from the backup image so there is no need to convert backup images to virtual hard disks. Once the server is virtualized it retains all of the system settings and application state so it is completely transparent to your end clients. The backups continue to occur after a server is virtualized so when it comes time to restore back to physical hardware you have the latest changes to your end clients data.
Disaster Recovery Testing
Zenith’s virtualization allows disaster recovery testing by verifying your backup images. There are 3 modes, Real, Test, and Test with Networking. Use the testing modes to verify your images, use Real Mode in the event of a disaster. Your system can be restored in minutes, not days. This provides built-in redundancy and allows shorter RTO's (recovery time objectives).
Q: What is the process of converting a backup to a virtual machine? Is there some kind of utility? A: With our solution, virtual machines are run directly from the backup files, no conversion is necessary.
Q: If I need to failover to a virtual machine, what additional configuration is required? A: No additional configuration is required. The virtual server retains all network and system settings. Your IP and server name remains the same.
Q: What is the Virtual Machine Acceleration Volume? A: This volume is another partition on a separate RAID controller on the BDR. The virtual machine migration files are written to the separate partition, improving system performance.
Q: You say complete a standby server virtualization in “typically less than 30 minutes”. Are there occasions where that can be much lower or higher? A: Yes, the virtualization is variable depending on the type of virtualization performed and available system resources.
Bare Metal Restore (BMR) gives you the ability to restore to a virtual server or dissimilar hardware configuration for ease of recovery after a disaster; e.g. hardware failure. This gives you flexibility for restorations and doesn't require the cost and effort of keeping a standby server ready at all times.
Recovery Process
Zenith’s recovery process is quite simple. When it is time to restore your virtualized server on the NAS device back to physical hardware a boot cd is inserted into the new physical hardware. The new server maps to the NAS device and begins to pull the latest backup image. Once the image is copied to the server Zenith manipulates the hardware abstraction layer and inserts the necessary device drivers for the new hardware. Once the server is completely restored backups continue to take place on their scheduled interval.
Q: What is a Bare Metal Restore? A: A Bare Metal Restore is a restore of your entire system to new or existing hardware. To restore a system volume, you will need to do so from the Recovery Environment (boot to the recovery CD shipped with your BDR).
Q: Do I need to use the exact same hardware to perform a BMR? A: No, the restore can be done to identical or dissimilar hardware. We provide the best match drivers, but we recommend having the most up-to-date drivers on hand for your server model.
Zenith also provides features to synchronize your backups to a local or network destination. This copies your entire backup chain to a redundant location for archiving and disaster recovery. Synchronizations can be scheduled or run on demand. Administrators receive alerts on failure. Retrieve images and restore back to the BDR if needed from archive.
Offsite Storage
Zenith also offers offsite storage that provides the option of synchronizing your backups offsite to our secure co-location facilities, all through an industry standard 256-bit encrypted tunnel. Be secure in the knowledge your backups have not been compromised during transfer. If your site is destroyed, you’re protected. We will ship you a replacement BDR next day air. Virtualize your servers on it until replacement hardware arrives.
Q: What options do I have for replicating my data onsite? A: You can synchronize your backup chain to a local, external, or network drive. The sync can be scheduled to run as often as you choose.
Q: Is replicating my data to Zenith’s collocation facilities necessary? A: No, this just provides you with an extra level of redundancy for your data. Files are encrypted in transit and cannot be read by anyone else.
Q: If there is a catastrophic disaster and I need a replacement from the collocation, how long will it be until I receive it? A: One business day after the request is received
